Pope Felix V (Antipope)
Pope Felix V was an antipope who claimed to be the legitimate pope from 1439 to 1449, although he was not recognized by the Roman Catholic Church. His real name was Felix V, born Amadeus VIII of Savoy. He became pope after the Western Schism, a period when multiple individuals claimed to be the true pope, leading to division. His election was supported by the Council of Basel, but the official papal pope at the time, Eugenius IV, opposed this. Eventually, Felix V resigned in 1449, ending his claim to the papacy and helping restore unity within the Church.
