Pontiac (Odawa leader)
Pontiac was a prominent Odawa (Ottawa) leader in the 18th century, known for uniting several Native American tribes to resist British and American encroachment on their lands after the French and Indian War. He led the successful Ottawa and allied nations in the Ottawa War (1763–1766), aiming to protect their territories and way of life. Despite setbacks, Pontiac remains a symbol of Native resistance and leadership. His efforts highlighted the struggles Indigenous peoples faced during colonial expansion and their desire to maintain sovereignty in a changing landscape.
