
Pompey's Pillar
Pompey's Pillar is a tall, ancient sandstone monument located in Alexandria, Egypt. Standing about 26 meters (85 feet) high, it was built around 300 AD during the Roman era and is named after Pompey, although he was not directly connected to it. The pillar features inscriptions in Latin and Egyptian hieroglyphs, highlighting the cultural blending of the time. It is one of the few remaining parts of the original Roman-built cityscape and serves as an important historical and archaeological landmark, offering insights into ancient Roman and Egyptian history.
