Pompeii (archaeological site)
Pompeii is an ancient Roman city near Naples, Italy, famously preserved by a volcanic eruption in 79 AD. When Mount Vesuvius erupted, ash and pumice buried the city quickly, freezing buildings, streets, and artifacts in time. Today, Pompeii offers a detailed snapshot of Roman life, showcasing well-preserved homes, mosaics, frescoes, and public spaces. There are over 2,000 years of history unearthed here, allowing archaeologists and visitors to study Roman architecture, daily life, and social structure as they were nearly two millennia ago. It remains one of the most important archaeological sites in the world.
