Polysyndactyly

Polysyndactyly is a condition where a person has extra fingers or toes that are connected by tissue or skin. This means, instead of the usual number of digits, there are additional ones that may overlap or be joined together, often with shared skin or soft tissue. It can occur on one or both hands or feet and may vary in appearance from mild (extra small extra digits) to more complex forms. Often, it is present at birth (congenital) and may be part of a genetic syndrome or occur alone. Treatment usually involves surgical removal of the extra digits to improve function and appearance.
