Polysome profiling
Polysome profiling is a laboratory technique used to study how proteins are made in cells. It involves separating groups of messenger RNA (mRNA) molecules based on the number of ribosomes attached to them—these are called polysomes. By analyzing these groups, scientists can determine how actively a gene is being translated into protein at a given time. The process typically uses a special centrifugation method to separate the different complexes, providing insights into gene expression regulation and cellular activity.
