Polyomavirus

Polyomavirus is a type of virus that infects humans and other animals. Most people contract it early in life, and it usually remains inactive or "dormant" in the body without causing symptoms. However, in people with weakened immune systems, such as organ transplant recipients or those with certain diseases, polyomavirus can reactivate and sometimes cause serious illnesses, including problems with the kidneys or brain. The virus spreads through bodily fluids, like urine or saliva. While it’s common and often harmless, monitoring and managing its activity is important for at-risk individuals.
