Polymyositis

Polymyositis is an inflammatory muscle disease that causes muscle weakness, particularly in the shoulders, hips, and back. This condition occurs when the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own muscle fibers, leading to pain and fatigue. The exact cause is unclear, but it may be related to genetics or environmental factors. Diagnosis typically involves blood tests, imaging, and muscle biopsies. Treatment often includes medications to reduce inflammation and improve muscle strength, as well as physical therapy to enhance mobility.
