Polycythemia
Polycythemia is a condition where the body produces too many red blood cells. This increase can make the blood thicker, which can lead to complications like blood clots, high blood pressure, or heart problems. There are two main types: primary polycythemia, often caused by genetic mutations, and secondary polycythemia, which may result from factors like living at high altitudes or chronic lung diseases. Symptoms can include headaches, dizziness, and a flushed appearance. Treatment may involve bloodletting or medication to reduce red blood cell production, aiming to maintain healthy blood flow and reduce risks.
