Polybutylene (PB)
Polybutylene (PB) is a type of plastic commonly used in plumbing systems for water supply lines, especially from the 1970s to the early 1990s. It is flexible, easy to install, and cost-effective, making it popular during that period. However, over time, it became known for its tendency to develop leaks or burst unexpectedly due to chemical reactions and exposure to chlorine in water, which can degrade the material. As a result, many building codes phased out its use, and older PB pipes may require inspection or replacement to prevent water damage.
