Political Process Theory

Political Process Theory explains how social movements and political change occur by focusing on the broader context. It suggests that successful movements depend not only on popular support but also on opportunities within the political environment—such as openness of the government, stability, and access to decision-makers. When these conditions are favorable, movements are more likely to grow and influence change. Conversely, during times of repression or political instability, progress becomes more difficult. Essentially, this theory emphasizes the importance of timing, available resources, and political environment in shaping the outcomes of social activism.
