Polish Armed Forces in the East
The Polish Armed Forces in the East were Polish military units formed during World War II, primarily composed of soldiers evacuated from Poland after its occupation by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. Based mainly in the Soviet Union, they fought alongside Allied forces against the Axis powers, notably participating in the Battle of Britain (via airmen) and the Eastern Front. These units played a key role in nation-building efforts and maintained Polish independence aspirations despite complex political pressures from the Soviets. Their existence highlighted the resilience of Polish resistance and their contribution to the Allied war effort during the period of occupation.
