Polio Virus

The poliovirus is a highly contagious virus that spreads mainly through contaminated food and water. It primarily attacks the nervous system, particularly the spinal cord, and can cause paralysis or, in severe cases, death. Many infected individuals show no symptoms, but some experience flu-like symptoms such as fever and sore throat. There is no cure for polio, but it can be prevented through vaccination. Widespread immunization efforts have drastically reduced polio cases worldwide, aiming to make it a disease of the past.
