Poles' deportations
Poles' deportations refer to the forced relocation of Polish citizens by authoritarian regimes, notably Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, during the 20th century. Under Nazi occupation, millions of Poles, especially Jews and other minorities, were deported to concentration camps or labor camps as part of ethnic cleansing and extermination efforts. The Soviets deported thousands of Poles, including political dissidents, intellectuals, and military personnel, mainly to Siberia and Central Asia, aiming to suppress opposition and integrate territories into the Soviet Union. These deportations caused immense suffering, loss of life, and disruption of Polish society.
