The Battle of Poitiers (1356) was a major conflict during the Hundred Years’ War between England and France. English forces, led by Edward, the Black Prince, successfully defended against a larger French army. Despite being outnumbered, the English used strategic tactics, including longbowmen, to inflict heavy damage on the French. The victory resulted in a significant ransom for the captured French King, John II, and weakened French military power. It marked a turning point, showcasing the effectiveness of disciplined English troops and long-range weaponry in medieval warfare.
