Poison hemlock
Poison hemlock is a highly toxic plant that looks similar to edible wild plants like carrots or parsley. It contains dangerous chemicals called alkaloids, particularly coniine, which can affect the nervous system. Ingesting even small amounts can cause symptoms such as dizziness, trembling, weakness, difficulty breathing, and, in severe cases, paralysis or death. The plant’s white, umbrella-shaped flower clusters and hollow, ribbed stems help identify it. Because of its toxicity, it should be avoided and handled with care, especially in areas where it grows naturally or in disturbed soils.
