Point Estimation

Point estimation is a statistical method used to make an educated guess about an unknown population parameter—such as an average or percentage—based on data from a sample. Instead of measuring the entire population, which is often impractical, statisticians analyze a smaller, representative group to calculate a single best estimate. For example, surveying a sample of voters to estimate the overall percentage supporting a candidate provides a point estimate of that support level. It’s a quick, useful way to infer information about the whole population from limited data.
