PNET (primitive neuroectodermal tumors)
Primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNETs) are rare, aggressive cancers that originate from early nerve cell precursors in the nervous system. They can occur in the brain, spinal cord, or elsewhere in the body and tend to grow rapidly. PNETs are part of a larger group called small round cell tumors, characterized by small, round cancer cells seen under a microscope. Because of their aggressive nature, they often require intensive treatment, including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Early diagnosis and a multidisciplinary approach are crucial to improve outcomes, but these tumors can be challenging due to their fast growth and tendency to spread.
