PLSS

PLSS, or Public Land Survey System, is a method used in the United States to divide and describe land, primarily for rural and government lands. It divides land into a grid of squares called "townships" and "ranges," which are identified by numbers relative to a principal meridian and baseline. These townships are further divided into 36 smaller units called "sections," each typically one square mile. This system provides an organized way to locate and record land ownership, making property boundaries and transfers clear and standardized across many states.
