Pleural fibrosis

Pleural fibrosis is a condition where the lining around the lungs, called the pleura, becomes thickened and stiff due to scar tissue formation. This usually results from inflammation or injury, such as infections, long-term exposure to harmful substances, or previous lung diseases. The thickened pleura can restrict lung movement, making breathing more difficult and leading to symptoms like shortness of breath and chest discomfort. While it is often a gradual process, treatment focuses on managing symptoms and underlying causes, as extensive scarring can reduce lung function over time.
