Pleistocene rewilding

Pleistocene rewilding is an ecological idea that aims to restore ecosystems by reintroducing or emphasizing species that lived during the Pleistocene epoch (about 2.6 million to 11,700 years ago). Since many of these megafauna (large animals) have gone extinct, the concept involves bringing back modern animals or similar species to mimic past ecological roles, helping to restore natural balance and biodiversity. It’s a way to address environmental changes, mitigate climate impacts, and rebuild ecosystems by re-establishing interactions once common in the Earth's history.
