Playa
A playa is a flat, dry area found in desert regions that forms in the lower part of a basin or valley. These formations occur when water from heavy rains temporarily collects in the depression, creating a shallow lake. As the water evaporates, it leaves behind minerals and fine sediments, resulting in a hard, often smooth surface that may appear as a dried, cracked mudflat. Playas are important for their unique ecosystems and as natural barriers that influence water flow in arid landscapes. They often serve as important habitats for specialized wildlife adapted to these extreme conditions.
