Plasminogen
Plasminogen is a naturally occurring protein in the blood that plays a key role in the body's process of removing blood clots. It circulates in an inactive form and is converted into a more active form called plasmin when needed. Plasmin acts like a biological pair of scissors, breaking down fibrin, the main protein that forms blood clots. This helps to dissolve clots after they have served their purpose in stopping bleeding, maintaining healthy blood flow and preventing blockages that could cause conditions like strokes or deep vein thrombosis.
