Plasma Cell Neoplasms

Plasma cell neoplasms are a group of cancers that originate in plasma cells, which are white blood cells responsible for producing antibodies to fight infections. The most well-known type is multiple myeloma, where abnormal plasma cells grow uncontrollably in the bone marrow, affecting the production of healthy blood cells. This can lead to weakened bones, anemia, and increased risk of infections. Other forms include solitary plasmacytoma and lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma. Diagnosis often involves blood tests, imaging studies, and sometimes a bone marrow biopsy. Treatment may include chemotherapy, targeted therapies, and stem cell transplants, depending on the specific type and severity.
