Plaques

Plaques are deposits that form inside arteries, composed mainly of fats, cholesterol, calcium, and cellular debris. Over time, these build-up can narrow and harden the arteries, restricting blood flow. This process, called atherosclerosis, can reduce oxygen supply to organs like the heart and brain, increasing the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular problems. Plaques can sometimes rupture, causing blood clots that further block arteries. Managing risk factors such as a healthy diet, regular exercise, and controlling blood pressure and cholesterol levels can help prevent or slow plaque formation.
