Plant Stress Physiology

Plant stress physiology studies how plants respond to challenging conditions like drought, extreme temperatures, soil salinity, pests, and diseases. When stressed, plants activate internal processes to protect themselves, such as closing their stomata to reduce water loss or producing special chemicals for defense. These responses help plants survive adverse environments, but prolonged stress can reduce growth and crop yields. Understanding these mechanisms allows scientists to develop more resilient plants, improve farming practices, and ensure food security despite changing climate and environmental conditions.
