Pitch Perception

Pitch perception refers to our ability to identify and distinguish the frequency of sound waves, which determines how "high" or "low" a sound appears to us. In psychoacoustics, this involves how our brain interprets sound frequencies, typically measured in Hertz (Hz). Higher frequencies correspond to higher pitches, like a whistle, while lower frequencies yield lower pitches, like a drum. This perception is influenced by factors such as harmonics, loudness, and individual hearing differences. Ultimately, pitch allows us to recognize melodies and tones in music and everyday sounds.
