Pitch Lake
Pitch Lake, located in Trinidad and Tobago, is the world's largest natural deposit of asphalt. It formed over thousands of years from the accumulation and compression of organic materials that turned into tar-like substance. The lake is about 100 acres in size and up to 75 meters deep, containing a mixture of liquid asphalt, solidified material, and water. This natural resource has been mined for centuries for paving roads and industrial uses. Its unique composition and large scale make it an important industrial site, showcasing a rare natural phenomenon of a vast, accessible asphalt deposit.
