Pitch framing
Pitch framing refers to the way a pitcher intentionally presents a pitch to influence the umpire's interpretation of its location and quality. By subtly signaling the size or placement of a pitch—such as appearing to catch the ball slightly outside the strike zone—the pitcher can persuade the umpire to call it a strike or ball in their favor. It's a strategic technique used to gain an advantage, relying on body language, glove positioning, or slight movements to suggest a different pitch location than what the ball's trajectory actually indicates.
