Piscine reovirus
Piscine reovirus (PRV) is a virus that infects fish, particularly farmed Atlantic salmon. It can cause a condition called Heart and Skeletal Muscle Inflammation (HSMI), which affects the fish's heart and muscles, potentially leading to reduced growth, poor health, or death. PRV is transmitted through water and fish contact. While many infected fish show no symptoms, some develop significant disease. Monitoring and managing PRV are important for fish health and aquaculture productivity. Currently, research continues to understand its impacts and strategies to prevent its spread.
