Piri Reis
Piri Reis was an Ottoman admiral and cartographer in the 16th century, known for creating detailed world maps. His most famous map, produced in 1513, intriguingly includes parts of Europe, Africa, and the coast of South America, and some believe it depicts Antarctica before it was officially discovered. The map showcases advanced knowledge for its time and reflects a blend of Ottoman, Portuguese, and Spanish sources. Piri Reis’s work is valued for its historical insights into early navigation, geographical understanding, and the exchange of knowledge between different cultures during the Age of Exploration.
