Piping Plover

The Piping Plover is a small, slender shorebird with a sandy or grayish-brown coloration that helps it blend into beach environments. It typically measures around 7-8 inches long and has a distinctive black band across its forehead and a short, stubby bill. These birds are often found nesting on open, sandy beaches along coasts and lakeshores. They feed mainly on small invertebrates such as insects, crustaceans, and mollusks. Due to habitat loss and human disturbance, Piping Plovers are considered threatened or endangered in some areas, prompting conservation efforts to protect their nesting sites and promote their population recovery.
