Piezo channels

Piezo channels are specialized proteins in cell membranes that act as sensors for mechanical forces like pressure, stretch, or touch. When a cell experiences physical force, these channels open to allow ions such as calcium or sodium to flow in, triggering signals inside the cell. This process helps the body detect sensations like pain, touch, and proprioception (body position), and also plays roles in processes like our sense of hearing and regulating blood pressure. Essentially, piezo channels convert mechanical stimuli into electrical signals that the brain can interpret.
