Pick and Roll

The pick and roll is a common basketball play where two players work together to create scoring opportunities. One player, called the screener, sets a solid screen or pick on the defender guarding the ball-handler. After setting the screen, the screener moves toward the basket to receive a pass or create space. The ball-handler then uses the screen to dribble past the defender or pass to the screener, who might be open for a shot or close enough to score easily. This play effectively disrupts the defense and opens up scoring options.
