Picea sitchensis
Picea sitchensis, commonly known as Sitka spruce, is a large, evergreen conifer native to the northwest coast of North America, especially Alaska and British Columbia. It has a straight trunk, bluish-green needles, and cone-shaped seed cones. Sitka spruce plays a vital role in its ecosystem, providing habitat for wildlife and helping maintain forest health. It is also valued commercially for its strong, lightweight wood used in construction, aircraft, and musical instruments. Growing in coastal climates with ample rainfall, it can reach heights over 200 feet and live for several hundred years.
