Photoreception

Photoreception is the biological process by which organisms detect and respond to light. Special cells called photoreceptors, located mainly in the eyes, contain pigments that absorb light energy. When light hits these cells, it triggers chemical changes that send signals to the brain, allowing us to see and interpret our visual environment. Photoreception is essential for tasks like navigation, finding food, and regulating sleep patterns. While most commonly associated with vision, light detection also influences other biological rhythms and behaviors in various organisms.
