Photopheresis

Photopheresis is a medical treatment that combines blood collection, light therapy, and reinfusion to help regulate the immune system. Blood is drawn from the patient, and a component called white blood cells is separated out. These cells are then exposed to a special light after being treated with a medication that makes them more reactive. The treated cells are returned to the patient's bloodstream, where they help modulate immune responses. Photopheresis is often used for conditions like certain skin disorders and autoimmune diseases, aiming to reduce abnormal immune activity and promote healing.
