Photon emission

Photon emission occurs when an atom or molecule releases energy in the form of light, known as a photon. This process often follows excitation, where an electron absorbs energy and moves to a higher energy level. When the electron returns to its original level, it emits a photon, releasing energy. In ionization, if enough energy is absorbed, an electron can be completely removed from the atom, resulting in a charged particle. Both processes are fundamental in understanding how light interacts with matter and underlie phenomena in fields like chemistry and physics.
