Photoemission

Photoemission is a process where shining light onto a material causes it to emit electrons. When photons (light particles) hit the surface, they transfer energy to electrons inside the material. If an electron gains enough energy, it can overcome the material's surface barrier and escape. This effect helps scientists study the electronic structure of materials, revealing how electrons behave and interact within them. Essentially, photoemission is a way to "look inside" materials by using light to free electrons for analysis, providing valuable insight into their properties at the atomic level.
