Photodimerization

Photodimerization is a chemical process where two identical molecules, called monomers, bond together after absorbing ultraviolet or visible light. This light energy excites the molecules, causing them to become more reactive. When they collide in this excited state, they form a new compound called a dimer, effectively linking two monomers into a larger structure. This process is common in certain organic compounds, such as some plastics and natural substances like DNA, and can influence material properties or biological functions depending on the context.
