photodermatoses

Photodermatoses are skin conditions triggered or worsened by exposure to sunlight or artificial ultraviolet (UV) radiation. These reactions vary; some are immune responses where the skin reacts abnormally to UV light, such as in polymorphic light eruption. Others are caused by substances in the skin or on it that become harmful when exposed to UV rays, such as in photoallergic or phototoxic reactions. Symptoms can include redness, swelling, blisters, or itching. Managing photodermatoses involves protecting skin from UV exposure, using sunscreens, wearing protective clothing, and sometimes taking medications to control reactions.
