Phonetics and Phonology
Phonetics is the study of sounds in human speech, focusing on how they are produced (articulation), how they are transmitted (acoustics), and how they are perceived (auditory). Phonology, on the other hand, examines how sounds function within a particular language or languages, including the rules that govern their organization and use. In essence, while phonetics deals with the physical aspects of sounds, phonology is concerned with the abstract, cognitive patterns that speakers use to understand and produce language. Together, they provide insights into communication and the building blocks of language.
