Phillipe Pinel

Philippe Pinel was a pioneering French psychiatrist in the late 18th and early 19th centuries who is credited with reforming mental health care. He believed that mental illnesses are medical conditions deserving compassion and treatment, rather than punishment or neglect. Pinel advocated for more humane treatment of patients, removing chains and improving living conditions in asylums.
