Philippine Commonwealth Government
The Philippine Commonwealth Government was an autonomous government established in 1935, serving as a transitional administration before full independence from the United States. It aimed to prepare Filipinos for self-rule by gradually increasing local governance and developing national institutions. Led by a President elected by Filipinos, it had its own legislative and executive branches, but still relied on the U.S. for defense and foreign policy. This setup allowed the Philippines to build government capacity while maintaining close ties with the U.S., culminating in full independence in 1946.
