Philippine Commonwealth Army

The Philippine Commonwealth Army was the military force established by the Philippines during its commonwealth period (1935-1946), when it was preparing for full independence from the United States. It served as the nation's national army, tasked with defense and internal security, and was trained and equipped partly with assistance from the U.S. military. During World War II, it played a key role in resisting Japanese invasion. After independence in 1946, it became the official Philippine Army. The Commonwealth Army symbolized the Philippines' move toward sovereignty with a capable, national defense force.
