Philippine Assembly
The Philippine Assembly was the first elected legislative body in the Philippines, created by the government of the United States during American colonial rule. Established in 1907, it allowed Filipinos to participate in shaping laws and policies affecting their country, marking a step towards self-governance. Members were elected by Filipino voters, and the Assembly worked alongside the American-installed Philippine Commission. Its formation was a significant move toward Filipino political representation and eventually paved the way for full independence, which was achieved in 1946. The Assembly served as the foundation for the later Philippine Congress.
