Philipp Nicolai

Philipp Nicolai (1556–1608) was a German pastor, composer, and poet during the late Renaissance. He is best known for writing hymns and liturgical music that express deep faith and comfort, especially during times of hardship. His most famous works include the hymns "Wachet Auf" ("Sleepers, Wake!") and "Meine Seele erhebt den Herren" ("My Soul Magnifies the Lord").
