
Philip Kapleau
Philip Kapleau (1912–2004) was an American educator and Buddhist teacher who played a key role in introducing Zen Buddhism to the West. He founded the Rochester Zen Center in New York and authored "The Three Pillars of Zen," a influential book that combines teachings, personal experiences, and practical guidance on meditation (zazen). Kapleau studied in Japan under Zen masters and helped bridge Eastern spiritual practices with Western audiences, emphasizing direct experience, meditation, and enlightenment. His work significantly contributed to the spread and understanding of Zen Buddhism outside Japan.
