Philadelphia Move bombing
The Philadelphia MOVE bombing occurred in 1985 when police dropped a bomb from a helicopter onto a residential building occupied by the MOVE organization, a Black liberation group. The aim was to force the group to surrender during a tense standoff. The bombing ignited a fire that destroyed 61 homes and resulted in the deaths of 11 people, including children. This event highlighted issues of police misconduct, government overreach, and racial tensions. It remains one of the most destructive and controversial law enforcement actions in U.S. history.
