Phenazopyridine

Phenazopyridine is a medication used to relieve discomfort caused by urinary tract infections (UTIs), such as pain, burning, urgency, and frequency during urination. It works as a local anesthetic on the lining of the urinary tract, providing symptomatic relief. However, it does not treat the infection itself, so it’s typically used alongside antibiotics. The medication turns urine a bright orange or red color, which is normal but can temporarily stain clothing. Phenazopyridine is usually prescribed for a short period to manage symptoms while the underlying infection is being treated.
